Basement conversions are increasingly popular and at Dampdoctor we have everything you need to complete the job. We specialise in the conversion of damp unusable basements and cellars into dry, valuable living space using cavity-drain waterproofing systems and cement-based tanking systems. With the increasing demand for accommodation many home owners are deciding to convert basement space into cosy bedsits and enjoy the extra income that they generate. The possibilities for such spaces are endless, whether it’s a home office or an extra bathroom that’s needed, perhaps a utility room, games room or gym.
The key to success in any conversion project is to ensure the area is completely waterproof. This is where Dampdoctors expertise becomes invaluable. With over 15-years’ experience in the marketplace we can supply everything you need to ensure a successful and comprehensive job. We have a complete range of treatments, waterproof membranes, sump pumps and drainage systems. All this means is that your once neglected damp, cold and mouldy basements can be transformed into wonderful cosy living areas.
Clearly, when working below ground the quality and durability of materials is extremely important, which is why all systems we use are independently tested and have Agreement Board Certification.
Our membrane systems are also suitable for use above ground when dealing with contaminated walls such as in barn conversions.
Cavity drain plastic membrane systems
Studded plastic membranes are fixed to the walls and floor to create drainage paths for penetrating water. The water is collected in a drainage channel at the base of the walls and pumped from the building. A back-up pump and primary pump failure alarm is usually included. Independent walls in front of the waterproofing system allow easier fixing of items to the walls and room for insulation, cables and pipes to be hidden away.
Cement-based tanking systems
A series of waterproof coats are applied to seal the wall and floor surface against water penetration. Pressure points such as internal angles and the floor-wall juncture are double sealed. Once applied, the waterproofing system is plastered over ready for decorating.
